Electricity Sector in Moldova: Evaluation of Strategic Options for the Future.

On September 23, 2010 Director of the Institute of Power Engineering Dr.Vladimir Berzan and Sergiu Robu has participated in a Workshop on discussion of Evaluation of Strategic Options for the Future development of Electricity Sector of Moldova.Joint Workshop was organized by German Economic Team in Moldova and Expert Grup.During Workshop the current issues of the electricity sector in Moldova were discussed as well as strategic options for the future development.Main results of the study “Electricity Sector in Moldova: Evaluation of Strategic Options for the Future” were presented by organizers.Three strategic options were presented: 1.East integration of energy system of Moldova; 2.West integration of energy system of Moldova; and 3.East-West electricity trading hub.

During discussions the cost and benefit of each option were evaluated, as well as risks and opportunities.Dr.Vladimir Berzan has participated in discussions presenting the role of Energy Strategy of Moldova till 2020 in energy policy decision making.The role of actors on energy market of Moldova was discussed and the main weaknesses were presented.
