CURRENT FIELDS OF INTEREST

Major fields of interest are Power Electronics, Electric Drives and Renewable Energy Systems. These include control strategies for perspective topologies of induction motor drives and power electronic converters with the two-, three- and multilevel output voltage, including multiphase converters and drives; modulation theory; methods and techniques of feedforward and feedback pulsewidth modulation for power converters; advanced space-vector-based modulation with special attention to the synchronized schemes of vector modulation; spectral assessment of the output voltage and current of converters with synchronous and asynchronous modulation; specialized schemes of modulation, providing reduction or elimination of the common-mode voltages and currents for three-phase and multiphase loads; modeling and simulation of the systems with modulated power converters; analysis of computational effectiveness of on-line algorithms of digital modulation; microprocessor-, microcontroller-, FPGA- and DSP-based implementation of the modern control/modulation algorithms in power conversion systems.

Research interests are concentrated also on effective control and modulation strategies for power converters for renewable energy systems (transformer-based and transformer-less photovoltaic systems, fuel-cells-based power supply systems, converters for wind turbines and compensators for wind generators, power electronic installations for small hydropower stations), and also for green surface and aerospace transport systems, based on power electronic equipment (electric and hybrid vehicles, railroad systems including locomotives, aerospace and aeronautics portable power supply systems).

BASIC CONTRIBUTION

Elaboration of the basics of synchronised space-vector pulsewidth modulation (PWM) for power converters for adjustable speed ac drives, formulated by the symbiosis of new parameters, laws, schemes, algorithms and functions, describing modulation processes in power conversion systems and allowing smooth continuous synchronization of the output voltage waveforms in voltage source converters during the whole control range.

Dissemination of the proposed PWM methodology for control of basic topologies of power converters and drives, including standard two-level three-phase inverters, three-level neutral-point-clamped inverters, cascaded converters with the four-level output voltage, open-end winding motor drives, five-phase power conversion systems, dual three-phase (six-phase) asymmetrical and symmetrical motor drives, transformer-based photovoltaic installations on the base of cascaded converters.
